Nobel Laureate and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus urged thousands of graduates at Chittagong University’s 5th Convocation to reimagine the world and embrace the courage to create a more compassionate and equitable society. Reflecting on his early days at CU and the founding of Grameen Bank during the 1974 famine, Prof Yunus challenged the prevailing profit-driven economic model and called for a civilization centered on human values.
Addressing what became the largest convocation in Bangladesh’s history, celebrating 22,586 graduates, Prof Yunus emphasized that real change begins with daring to dream of a better world. The university honored him with an honorary Doctor of Literature (D. Litt) degree for his groundbreaking work in microcredit and global advocacy for peace and dignity.
Other speakers, including Education Adviser Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and UGC Chairman Prof Dr SMA Faiz, praised the graduates and the university’s contribution to national education. Prof Yunus’s speech left a lasting impression, encouraging the new graduates to go beyond traditional roles and become pioneers of meaningful social transformation.
