The Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, originally set to begin on June 6 in Sri Lanka, has been postponed due to adverse weather forecasts and rising health risks, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced on June 2. Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi de Silva formally requested the postponement, citing the onset of the southwest monsoon and the resurgence of the Chikungunya virus in multiple provinces.
Sri Lanka’s Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds during the scheduled tournament period, while health authorities report a renewed outbreak of Chikungunya, a viral fever that reemerged in late 2024 after 14 years. The U.S. CDC has listed Sri Lanka among countries currently at risk for the virus.
In response to these concerns, the ACC confirmed that the tournament will be rescheduled, with new dates to be announced later.
