The Chief Advisor’s press wing has dismissed as false and misleading a viral video claiming that an elderly Hindu school teacher was humiliated by radical Islamists in Bangladesh.
In a statement issued Sunday night on its verified Facebook page ‘CA Press Wing Facts,’ it clarified that the man shown wearing a garland of shoes is Ahmed Ali, a Muslim and retired community medical officer from Tekati village in Baliakandi upazila, Rajbari.
Reports from Kaler Kantho, Dhaka Times, and bdnews24.com confirmed that Ahmed Ali was punished by locals for making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), not for being Hindu. The statement said the incident was falsely portrayed online as religious persecution against Hindus to incite communal tensions, despite being a localised reaction to alleged blasphemy with no communal motive.
