UN Resident Coordinator Gwen Lewis met with Interim Government Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus at his Jamuna residence on Tuesday, June 3. Their discussions centered on Bangladesh’s development progress, upcoming reforms, and international cooperation.
Lewis praised the interim government’s strong commitment to reforms and assured continued UN support to help implement ambitious national goals. Both parties explored ways the UN could assist in Bangladesh’s smooth graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
They also addressed the worsening Rohingya refugee crisis, expressing concern over sharp funding cuts that are affecting essential services like education. The Chief Advisor urged the international community to step up support to prevent further disruption in aid efforts.
The UN reaffirmed its solidarity with Bangladesh’s reform agenda and promised to continue collaborating to ensure sustainable growth and humanitarian stability.
