A Ukrainian drone strike on Tuesday targeted the Kupol Electromechanical Plant in the Russian city of Izhevsk, killing three people and injuring at least 45, six of whom are in critical condition, according to Udmurtia Governor Alexander Brechalov.
The attack struck the military factory located about 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The facility produces Tor and Osa air defense systems, radar stations, and drones. Ukrainian officials confirmed that two long-range drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out the strike from approximately 1,300 kilometers away.
Video footage verified by the BBC showed explosions on the plant’s roof and thick black smoke billowing from a chimney. A state of emergency was declared in the region following the strike, which Governor Brechalov said has been reported to President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian media noted that such operations undermine Russia’s offensive capacity and prove no military site is beyond reach.
