UK Unveils £3 Billion Plan to Train Local Workforce, Cut Reliance on Foreign Labor

Britain has announced a record £3 billion ($4 billion) investment to create 120,000 new training opportunities aimed at addressing labor shortages and reducing dependency on foreign workers.

The initiative, revealed by the government’s education department, will prioritize sectors such as construction, engineering, health and social care, and digital industries. The strategy aims to “refocus the skills landscape towards young, domestic talent” amid concerns over the country’s rising economic inactivity rate, which currently stands at 21.4%, driven in part by post-pandemic labor market shifts.
