The UK’s National Crime Agency has frozen nearly £90 million worth of luxury London properties linked to two relatives of Salman F Rahman, a key figure in the former regime of Bangladesh’s ousted leader Sheikh Hasina. The freezing orders, which span nine properties—including prime real estate in Grosvenor Square—target Ahmed Shayan Rahman and his cousin Ahmed Shahryar Rahman. The assets are owned through offshore entities and were purchased for sums ranging from £1.2 million to £35.5 million.
The action follows rising pressure on the UK to assist Bangladesh’s interim government in locating assets tied to the toppled regime. Transparency International and The Guardian previously revealed £400 million in UK assets held by regime allies. Among the frozen holdings is a north London property linked to Sheikh Hasina’s sister, Sheikh Rehana, and her daughter, former UK City minister Tulip Siddiq—who now faces an arrest warrant in Bangladesh and denies all allegations.
The NCA confirmed the orders were part of an ongoing civil probe. Transparency International urged swift action to freeze all suspect assets. The Rahmans deny wrongdoing and promise to cooperate with UK authorities, citing political instability in Bangladesh as the context behind the allegations.
