At the U.S. Independence Day celebration in Dhaka, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson reaffirmed America’s strong support for Bangladesh’s ongoing reform initiatives led by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and the interim government. Jacobson praised last year’s student-led uprising as the foundation for rebuilding the state and restoring democracy, expressing support for upcoming free and fair elections.
She highlighted over five decades of strong Bangladesh-U.S. ties, citing $2.5 billion in humanitarian aid for the Rohingya crisis since 2017 and over $8 billion in USAID investments supporting Bangladesh’s graduation from Least Developed Country status. Jacobson emphasized the economic impact of U.S. companies such as Chevron, Oracle, Microsoft, Meta, and Google in Bangladesh’s energy and digital sectors.
She also noted ongoing discussions to resolve bilateral trade issues and underscored robust military cooperation through joint exercises and officer training at U.S. military academies. The celebration, themed as a traditional American state fair, symbolically represented U.S.-Bangladesh cultural and commercial connections, featuring American cotton and Bangladeshi denim as highlights of their enduring partnership.
