Security forces have arrested two suspected armed operatives, Shooter Arafat and Sharif, from Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area, following intelligence extracted from notorious criminals Subrata Bain and Molla Masud, officials confirmed during a Tuesday press briefing by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The arrests stem from a pre-dawn, army-led raid in Kushtia, where Bain and Masud—two of Bangladesh’s most wanted fugitives—were captured along with two others. The raid uncovered a cache of weapons, including five foreign pistols, 10 magazines, 53 rounds of ammunition, and a satellite phone used for cross-border communication.
ISPR Director Lt. Col. Sami-ul-Doula stated that intelligence from the Kushtia raid enabled the swift follow-up arrests in Dhaka. Local residents expressed shock after learning the high-profile criminals had been living in their neighborhood undetected for over a month.
Subrata Bain, previously operating from abroad, and Masud—recently arrested in India under the alias Abu Rasel—are believed to be central figures in a transnational crime network. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, with more arrests expected in the continued crackdown on organized crime.
