Tusshar Kapoor Confirms Jeetendra’s Permanent Retirement from Acting, Hopes for Docudrama Tribute

Tusshar Kapoor has confirmed that his father, legendary Bollywood actor Jeetendra, has no intention of returning to the silver screen, officially marking the end of his storied film career. Known for blockbuster hits like Geet Gaya Patharon Ne, Gunahon Ka Devta, Himmatwala, and Tohfa, Jeetendra was one of the most prominent stars of the 1960s and ’70s, eventually scaling back his appearances in the ’90s and only taking on brief cameos since then.

Speaking to PTI, Tusshar shared, “He still keeps up with modern cinema, but he has no desire to return to acting. He’s already completed nearly 200 films since starting at the age of 20. That chapter is closed. He was never interested in supporting or character roles.”

Tusshar also reflected on how limited and stereotypical the roles for older actors used to be, which further discouraged Jeetendra from continuing. “Unlike today, the past offered very few meaningful roles for senior actors. That’s part of why he chose to step away and focus on business ventures,” he explained.

Expressing admiration for his father’s legacy, Tusshar revealed he would love to see Jeetendra’s life and work immortalized in a docudrama. “Legends like Dad and Dharmendra never actively promoted themselves. A docudrama—something in the spirit of Elvis—would be a fitting tribute. Their contributions shaped Indian cinema, and there’s so much the new generation can learn from them.”

Tusshar Kapoor is currently appearing in the horror-comedy Kapkapiii, which released in theaters on May 23.
