Former US President Donald Trump has ordered a partial lifting of long-standing sanctions on Syria to support reconstruction efforts under interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad. The executive order, issued Monday, removes sanctions on 518 individuals and entities critical to Syria’s development and governance while maintaining sanctions against Assad, ISIL, and Iran-linked groups. The move aims to stabilize Syria, protect minorities, and enhance regional security, though full sanction relief under the Caesar Act remains under review.
