The trial of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity committed in July is progressing at the necessary pace, according to Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal.
Speaking to journalists on Monday (June 30), Islam stated, “The trial is proceeding at the pace that it needs. We are maintaining both the speed of settling this case as soon as possible and maintaining all the standards of justice.”
He emphasised that while the trial is swift, justice is the priority. “It is not possible to complete the trial in a hurry like in a mobile court. The court will determine how quickly the rest of the trial will proceed.”
Islam noted that hearings are conducted efficiently, “We are not taking more than a day, nor will we. We will do whatever is necessary to complete the trial on time.”
A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, July 1, to decide whether charges will be formally framed against Sheikh Hasina in this high-profile case.
