A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on former Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury and five of his family members amid an ongoing anti-corruption investigation. The order, issued Sunday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib, follows a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The travel restrictions also apply to Chowdhury’s wife Rehan Chowdhury, sons Hamdad Hossain and Araj Alam, and daughters Raima Chowdhury and Alisha Babar Chowdhury.
According to the ACC, led by Deputy Director Md. Saiduzzaman, the family is under investigation for allegedly amassing significant wealth through corruption and abuse of political power. The commission’s plea cited evidence of properties owned by the family in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The ACC requested the travel ban to prevent the accused from fleeing the country during the investigation.
