The Bangladesh Army has arrested two of the country’s most notorious terrorists, Subrata Bain alias Fateh Ali and Abu Russell Masud alias Mullah Masud, in a coordinated intelligence-led operation. The arrests were announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) at a press conference on May 27.
The 24-hour operation, led by the 46th Independent Infantry Brigade, began at 5:00 a.m. in Kushtia and later extended to Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area. Along with the two top fugitives, associates Arafat (a shooter) and Sharif (a driver) were also apprehended.
Subrata Bain, a feared criminal since the early 1990s and founder of the violent ‘Seven Star’ gang, had been wanted for numerous crimes including murder, extortion, and land grabbing. He previously fled to India and was arrested there in 2008, only to disappear again after being released on bail in 2009.
ISPR Director Lt. Colonel Sami-ud-Daulah praised the professionalism of the operation, which was executed without casualties. He credited the Military Operations Directorate, 55 Infantry Division, 14 Independent Engineer Brigade, 71 Mechanized Brigade, and the National Security Intelligence (NSI) for their support.
The army urged the public to report any suspicious or terror-related activities to local camps or law enforcement as part of an ongoing effort to maintain national security. The operation marks a significant blow to organized crime and terrorism networks operating across Bangladesh.
