A Dhaka court has ordered the detention of three suspects in connection with the murder of Shahriar Alam Sammo, a 25-year-old Chhatra Dal leader at Dhaka University. Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed issued the order on Wednesday after the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Toufiq Hasan of Shahbagh Police Station, presented the accused in court and sought their remand.
The arrested individuals—Tamim Hawlader (30) of Madaripur Sadar, Palash Sardar (30), and Samrat Mallick (28), both from Dasar upazila in Madaripur—were apprehended Tuesday night during raids in Dhaka’s Razabazar area and nearby locations.
According to the case details, Sammo was fatally stabbed around 11:00 PM on Tuesday while riding a motorcycle through Suhrawardy Udyan. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by friends but was declared dead shortly after midnight. His elder brother, Shariful Islam, filed a case the following morning with Shahbagh Police Station, accusing 10 to 12 unidentified individuals.
