Three people were killed and at least 30 others injured in a devastating head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj on Thursday night.
The accident occurred around 9 PM in the Fukra area of Kashiani upazila when a Boleshwar Paribahan bus traveling from Mongla to Chattogram collided with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction, police said.
The truck driver and two others died at the scene, while 30 passengers sustained injuries. Eighteen of the injured were admitted to the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital, and the rest were treated at the Kashiani Upazila Health Complex.
The collision caused a two-hour traffic jam on the busy highway. Fire service teams and local residents worked together to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow, according to Kashiani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khandaker Hafizur Rahman.
To accommodate the surge in patients, Gopalganj General Hospital deployed additional medical staff, the official added. The identities of the deceased had not been confirmed as of the latest update.
