Thailand’s new Cabinet was sworn in on Thursday, including suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who now serves as culture minister while under investigation for an alleged ethics breach. Paetongtarn, suspended Tuesday after the Constitutional Court accepted a petition against her for her conciliatory comments during a phone call with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen over a deadly border clash, attended the ceremony but declined media questions. Acting Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit led the swearing-in and is expected to transfer duties to Phumtham Wechayachai, newly appointed deputy prime minister and interior minister. Paetongtarn has 15 days to present her defense, with no timeline set for a final ruling.
