Taskin Ahmed Eyes Sri Lanka Comeback, Impressed by New Bowling Coach Shaun Tait

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed remains hopeful of returning to international cricket for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in June, as he continues to recover from an Achilles tendon injury. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Taskin confirmed he’s progressing well through rehabilitation and has already resumed light bowling.

“I’ve completed five rehab sessions and started light bowling. So far, there are no complaints,” said Taskin, who is working under a recovery plan guided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s physio team and a specialist from the UK. While optimistic, he admitted it’s still too early to confirm a specific comeback date but reiterated that Sri Lanka is his primary target.

Injuries have often plagued Taskin, and he revealed he is currently experiencing soreness in his left foot, which bears the brunt of his landing as a fast bowler. “Injury is part of life for a pacer,” he noted, explaining that scans sometimes show issues even when there’s no pain.

Taskin also spoke highly of Shaun Tait, the newly appointed fast bowling coach for Bangladesh, replacing Andre Adams. He praised Tait’s experience as one of cricket’s fastest bowlers and his deep knowledge of T20 cricket. “He brings a lot of T20 insight, which is crucial because we have a packed T20 calendar this year,” Taskin said.

He highlighted Tait’s experience in international T20 leagues and his previous involvement with Bangladeshi players during the BPL. “Having a big personality like Tait in the dressing room can really help. His familiarity with our team will make the transition smoother,” he added.

While acknowledging that fast bowlers often need to take ownership of their own development, Taskin believes Tait’s presence will offer valuable guidance, both technically and mentally, as Bangladesh prepares for a busy cricketing year.
