On the occasion of World Environment Day, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman announced a five-point environmental agenda that the party will implement if elected to power, emphasizing urgent action in the face of climate change and industrial pollution.
In a statement to the media, Rahman stressed the need for a realistic and visionary national environmental strategy, pledging BNP’s commitment to sustainable development. The five major initiatives include:
- National Green Recovery Plan – Focusing on reforestation, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture.
- Ban on Harmful Plastics and Chemicals – Promoting eco-friendly alternatives for industries and households.
- Comprehensive River and Canal Restoration – Combatting waterlogging and safeguarding aquatic ecosystems.
- Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Infrastructure – Providing support in vulnerable southern regions.
- Environmental Education – Integrating environmental studies into school curricula to foster awareness from an early age.
Rahman highlighted BNP’s long-standing environmental legacy, citing initiatives launched by party founders such as the Environmental Pollution Control Project in 1977 and the enactment of the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act in 1995.
Calling environmental protection a national duty, he urged cross-party collaboration to build a sustainable and livable Bangladesh for future generations.
