World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will face three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek in a highly anticipated French Open semi-final, following their respective victories on Tuesday.
Sabalenka overcame a tight contest against China’s Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, winning 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 on a windy Court Philippe Chatrier. Swiatek followed with a dominant 6-1, 7-5 win over Elina Svitolina, setting up a clash between the tournament’s top title contenders.
The two have met 12 times, with Swiatek leading their head-to-head 8-4, though they haven’t faced off in a Grand Slam since the 2022 US Open semi-final. While Swiatek is chasing her fifth Roland-Garros title, Sabalenka is aiming for her first triumph in Paris.
“Aryna has a game for every surface,” Swiatek said. “It’s going to be a tough match, but I’m happy for the challenge.”
