Surge in Remittances Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha: $604 Million Sent in First Three Days of June

Expatriate Bangladeshis have sent $604 million in remittances during the first three days of June, ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, equivalent to Tk 7,429 crore. The Bangladesh Bank report, released on June 5, attributes this surge to increased festive spending by expatriates on sacrificial animals, gifts, and family support.

Officials and economists say this seasonal rise boosts the rural economy and contributes significantly to the nation’s financial stability. The central bank noted that remittances hit $2.97 billion in May and a record $3.29 billion in March before Eid-ul-Fitr. Total remittance inflow for the current fiscal year has reached $28.11 billion—29.8% higher than the same period last year.

The consistent flow, supported by legal incentives and improved digital channels, marks eight consecutive months with over $2 billion in remittances since the interim government took office.
