Sun, Rain, and Heatwaves to Continue as Unstable Weather Persists Across Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast that the current pattern of alternating sunshine, rain, and heatwaves will persist across the country for another 8 to 10 days.

Following a spell of intense heat, many areas are now seeing brief rain showers as light clouds overshadow the sun. However, the relief is short-lived—high humidity quickly follows the rain, making conditions uncomfortable and sticky.

Meteorologists note that May, the first month of summer, typically brings a volatile mix of scorching temperatures and sudden rain. While rainfall can temporarily ease the heat, it is often followed by a rapid return of oppressive warmth due to elevated humidity.

On Thursday, moderate heatwaves were reported in regions including Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, and Chandpur, as well as in Khulna and Barishal divisions. Simultaneously, some areas—including parts of Dhaka—experienced short bursts of rain, offering fleeting relief.

Experts explain that this alternating weather pattern is characteristic of May. Though rain may bring temporary cooling, it does not provide lasting comfort. As the showers end, humid air and heat quickly return, keeping overall discomfort levels high.

In summary, the mix of sunshine, rainfall, and persistent heat is expected to remain the norm throughout the coming week, with only brief moments of respite in between.
