Leaders and activists of Students Against Discrimination (SAD) surrounded Patiya Police Station in Chittagong’s Patiya upazila on Wednesday morning, protesting for fair justice after a clash with police. The protest, which began at 9:30AM, disrupted traffic on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway, causing severe inconvenience to commuters.
The incident followed a confrontation on Tuesday night when SAD activists detained a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader and brought him to the police station, demanding his arrest. A scuffle broke out as activists allegedly attempted to assault the BCL leader, leading to injuries. Chittagong District Police Superintendent Md Saiful Islam Santu expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing protest.
