Storm Batters Bhola: Thousands Homeless, Embankments Breached, Livestock Swept Away

Relentless storms and tidal surges triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal wreaked havoc across Bhola on Friday, leaving widespread destruction in its wake. Over 5,200 homes were damaged across remote char areas, with Charfasson, Monpura, and Tajumuddin upazilas among the worst hit. Livestock losses soared as more than a thousand cattle and goats were washed away, and thousands of residents remain waterlogged.

In Dhal Char, Char Kukri-Mukri, and Mujibnagar unions, hundreds of homes and trees were destroyed, while fish ponds and local infrastructure suffered significant damage. Embankments in Syedabad and Tajumuddin were breached, flooding nearby villages and displacing thousands.

Local authorities have launched emergency relief operations, distributing food and assessing damage. Victims are now urging the government to build permanent embankments to protect the vulnerable coastal district from future calamities.
