Stocks Slide on Both DSE and CSE Amid Large-Cap Declines

Both of Bangladesh’s major stock exchanges—Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)—closed in the red on Sunday, primarily due to a drop in large-cap securities, according to BSS.

The benchmark index of the DSE, DSEX, fell by 29.4 points or 0.6%, ending the session at 4,791, down from 4,820 in the previous trading day.

Trading activity remained sluggish, with turnover showing a modest increase of 11.3%, reaching Tk 2.9 billion compared to Tk 2.6 billion in the previous session.

Among the sectors, Banking led the turnover chart, accounting for 19.9% of total trades, followed by General Insurance at 9.8% and Food at 9.1%.

Despite some gains, most sectors ended the day in the red. The biggest losses were seen in Mutual Funds (-3.4%), Cement (-1.8%), and Services (-1.8%).

Of the 397 issues traded on the DSE, 102 advanced, 234 declined, and 61 remained unchanged.

The CSE also ended the day lower. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) dropped by 50.0 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) slipped 78.0 points, continuing the downward trend seen across both bourses.
