Stock Market Sees Post-Eid Recovery, but ‘Bad’ Companies Dominate Gains

The Bangladeshi stock market has shown signs of recovery after Eid, with share prices rising on most working days. On Wednesday, both strong (‘A’ category) and weak (‘Z’ category) companies saw price increases. Notably, 62 out of 96 ‘Z’ group companies, which do not pay dividends, recorded price gains, while 155 ‘A’ category and 60 ‘B’ category companies also saw increases.

Market experts attributed the recovery to incentives in the interim government’s budget and low current share prices, which are attracting investors. However, they cautioned buyers to differentiate between strong and weak companies to avoid potential losses.

The DSEX index rose by 26 points to 4,865, while the DSE Shariah Index gained 5 points to 1,065 and the DSE-30 Index increased by 1 point to 1,817. Daily turnover rose to Tk 4,795 crore from Tk 4,645 crore in the previous session.

Top traded companies included Beach Hatchery, Agni Systems, Lovelo Ice Cream, BRAC Bank, and Square Pharmaceuticals. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw gains, with its CASPI index up by 90 points, despite a decrease in trading volume to Tk 5.37 crore.
