State-appointed lawyer Amir Hossain has expressed dissatisfaction with the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict sentencing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to six months and Shakil Akand Bulbul to two months in prison for contempt of court. Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, he said he disagreed with the prosecution’s statement and was not satisfied with the verdict, indicating further steps would be taken after reviewing it. The sentences were issued for obstructing tribunal proceedings and intimidating plaintiffs and witnesses, marking the first court sentence against Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh’s history. Both convicts failed to appear before the court despite multiple summons, leading to the ruling.
