Springer’s Seven RBIs Lead Blue Jays to Canada Day Win Over Yankees

George Springer powered the Toronto Blue Jays to a 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Canada Day, driving in a career-high seven runs, including his ninth career grand slam. His seven RBIs tied for the second most by any Blue Jays player in a home game, just behind Edwin Encarnación’s nine in 2015. Springer went 3-for-4, starting with a solo homer in the fourth inning and later delivering the grand slam off Luke Weaver in the seventh.

Andrés Giménez added a go-ahead three-run homer as the Blue Jays rallied from a 2-0 deficit against Max Fried. The Yankees briefly tied the game 4-4 in the seventh, but Toronto’s offense exploded in the bottom half, taking advantage of New York’s struggling bullpen. With this win, the Blue Jays have taken the first two games of the four-game series and are now just one game behind the AL East-leading Yankees for the first time since April 20.

The Yankees continued to struggle with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-17 in the game and 3-for-24 in the series, while Toronto excelled, hitting 5-for-7 in such situations. After finishing June with a 13-14 record, the Yankees have now fallen to 10-14 against division rivals this season.
