SpaceX is poised for its next Starship test launch Tuesday evening from its Starbase facility in Texas, aiming to push forward Elon Musk’s Mars ambitions after two previous missions ended in fiery failures. The towering 403-foot rocket — the most powerful ever built — is also central to NASA’s Artemis 3 lunar mission plans.
This ninth flight will mark several firsts: reusing a Super Heavy booster (which will splash down in the Gulf of Mexico), deploying mock Starlink satellite payloads, and attempting a halfway-around-the-world journey for the upper stage, ending in the Indian Ocean. Despite setbacks, SpaceX continues its aggressive testing strategy, with the FAA expanding launch permissions and approving more annual flights. The outcome of this launch could be pivotal in SpaceX’s goal to send Starship to Mars as early as next year.
