Shubman Gill Smashes Double Century, Breaks Gavaskar’s 46-Year Record for Highest Test Score by an Indian in England

Shubman Gill carved his name into cricket history with a magnificent double century at Edgbaston, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s 46-year-old record for the highest Test score by an Indian on English soil. Gill reached 254 runs by the time of reporting, eclipsing Gavaskar’s 221 set at The Oval in 1979. His innings also broke Mohammad Azharuddin’s record for the highest score by an Indian Test captain in England, previously 179 at Old Trafford in 1990.

Gill’s monumental knock helped India post a commanding first innings total of 544 for 6, putting them firmly in control of the match. At just 25, this performance marks a career-defining moment for Gill and sets a new benchmark for Indian Test cricket abroad.
