Shehbaz Sharif Seeks Putin’s Mediation in India-Pakistan Dispute

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally requested Russian President Vladimir Putin’s help in mediating tensions with India. The appeal was conveyed through a letter delivered by Syed Tariq Fatemi, Sharif’s special assistant, during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

Speaking at the Valdai International Discussion Club, Fatemi emphasized Pakistan’s openness to any peace initiative from global powers or neutral parties, including the UN. The move follows heightened tensions after the April 22 terrorist attack in Kashmir and subsequent military operations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Sharif’s letter urges Putin to leverage his influence to bring India and Pakistan to the negotiating table for a diplomatic resolution. Fatemi stated that Pakistan is actively seeking Russia’s support in de-escalating the conflict and maintaining regional stability.
