Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Signs Record $285M Extension with Thunder After Historic MVP Season

NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has agreed to a four-year, $285 million super maximum contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, securing him through the 2030-31 season and setting a league record for the highest annual salary. The 26-year-old led the NBA with 32.7 points per game in the regular season and 30.3 in the Finals, becoming one of the few players to win MVP and Finals MVP in the same year.

Gilgeous-Alexander also became the first since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 to win a scoring title and NBA championship in the same season, joining legends like Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Acquired in 2019 as part of the Paul George trade, he has remained committed through the Thunder’s rebuild, culminating in their recent 68-win championship season. His contract cements his role as the franchise cornerstone as Oklahoma City builds its dynasty ambitions around him.
