A serious sexual harassment complaint against Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight attendant Abdur Rahman Sumon remains unaddressed nearly three weeks after it was filed, triggering widespread concern among the airline’s female employees. Despite the allegations, Sumon continues to be assigned to prestigious international routes, including Dhaka-Rome-Dhaka, while the female cabin crew who lodged the complaint is reportedly facing pressure and threats to withdraw it.
The incident occurred during Biman flight BG-0147 on May 1–3. According to the complaint submitted on May 4, Sumon allegedly made lewd, unsolicited remarks and sexually suggestive comments toward a junior female colleague during and after the flight. Despite a brief five-day suspension, Sumon was reinstated under alleged pressure from union leaders.
Insiders claim that there is an internal attempt to cover up the incident, as the complaint has not yet been forwarded to Biman’s Harassment Prevention Committee. Many staff members are alarmed by the inaction, citing previous incidents where lesser offenses resulted in termination or demotion—while Sumon, despite past allegations, continues to enjoy protection from influential figures within the airline.
When contacted, Sumon denied knowledge of the complaint and dismissed its legitimacy. Biman’s customer service director declined to comment, while the airline’s spokesperson later stated that an investigation is “ongoing” and disciplinary action will be taken if the allegations are substantiated.
The incident has sparked fear and anger among Biman’s female staff, who warn that continued silence on such issues is compromising both safety and morale within the organization.
