Scottie Scheffler completed a dramatic year-long turnaround on Sunday by winning the 107th PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, marking his third career major title. The world No. 1 golfer shot an even-par 71 in the final round to secure a five-stroke victory over Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau, and Davis Riley.
The win came exactly one year and one day after Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club during the 2024 PGA Championship—an incident that made headlines worldwide. All charges were later dropped, with officials confirming it was a misunderstanding.
Scheffler’s victory on Sunday places him among golf’s elite. At 28 years old, he now joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as one of only three golfers since World War II to record 15 PGA Tour wins and three majors before turning 29.
Though briefly tied with Jon Rahm at the turn, Scheffler pulled ahead with clutch birdies on the 10th, 14th, and 15th holes, while Rahm collapsed down the stretch, carding bogeys and double bogeys over the final three holes of Quail Hollow’s treacherous “Green Mile” finishing stretch. Rahm ultimately tied for eighth place at 4 under.
Scheffler’s five-shot win ties for the fourth-largest margin of victory in PGA Championship history. It follows a string of historic performances, including his wins at the 2022 and 2024 Masters.
After sinking his final putt, an emotional Scheffler celebrated with his family and threw his hat into the air as chants of his name echoed around the green. His father told him:
“Words cannot describe what we just witnessed. You are so tough. We are so proud of you.”
The triumph caps an extraordinary redemption arc for Scheffler, transforming a year that began with legal turmoil into one of the most memorable seasons in modern golf history.
