Saudi Arabia’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a heatwave warning for pilgrims participating in this year’s Hajj, set to begin on June 4. Daytime temperatures are expected to soar up to 40°C, with nighttime temperatures ranging between 27°C and 32°C. Humidity levels during the pilgrimage may fluctuate between 15% and 60%.
NCM Chief Dr. Ayman Ghulam warned that hot, dry winds from the north and northwest may trigger sandstorms, particularly in open areas and highways, with wind speeds reaching 25–35 km/h. Additionally, monsoon storms accompanied by thunder and lightning are forecasted, adding further challenges for pilgrims.
Authorities have urged pilgrims to stay hydrated, remain updated on weather forecasts, and take necessary precautions against extreme heat and shifting weather conditions. With millions expected to gather in Mecca for the annual pilgrimage—one of Islam’s five pillars—weather preparedness is being emphasized to ensure safety during the sacred rituals.
