Salahuddin Ahmed Questions Dr Yunus’ Remarks, Reaffirms BNP’s Demand for December Election

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Friday criticized Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus for blaming BNP over the timing of the upcoming national election, calling the accusation “incomprehensible” and misleading. Speaking after paying tribute to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman on his 44th martyrdom anniversary at Chandrima Udyan, Salahuddin rejected Dr Yunus’ claim that only one party is calling for a December election.

He emphasized that BNP and allied political parties have consistently supported early elections and actively participated in all calls for dialogue. Salahuddin urged the interim government to announce a clear election roadmap by December, stating the nation is united in its demand for a fair and timely vote.

He cautioned Dr Yunus against making confusing statements from abroad, suggesting the chief adviser may be misinformed. Reflecting on Ziaur Rahman’s legacy, Salahuddin praised him as a pivotal figure in Bangladesh’s history who championed democracy, judicial independence, and national development.

During the day, Salahuddin also participated in food and clothing distribution events for the poor, reaffirming BNP’s commitment to building a democratic society free from injustice and inequality. He reiterated that while reforms and legal processes may continue, elections must not be delayed.
