World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka overcame a tough challenge from Marie Bouzkova, winning 7-6(4), 6-4 in her second-round Wimbledon match. Bouzkova was just two points away from taking the first set three times but couldn’t close it out, as Sabalenka fought back with powerful forehand and backhand winners to force a tiebreak, which she dominated from 4-all to take the set.
Despite four top-10 women’s seeds, including Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, being eliminated in the first round, Sabalenka avoided joining the list of upsets. She compiled an impressive 41-17 winners-to-unforced errors ratio and secured the only break of the second set for a 3-2 lead, sealing the match in just over 90 minutes.
The victory extends Sabalenka’s remarkable streak to 32 consecutive wins during the first week of Grand Slams since the 2022 US Open. She will face either Emma Raducanu or Marketa Vondrousova in the third round as she continues her quest for her first Wimbledon title.
