Russian Airstrikes Kill 12 Across Ukraine; Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Zhytomyr Hit Hard

Russian forces launched overnight drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens more, according to Ukrainian regional officials and emergency services cited by the BBC on Sunday, May 25.

In Mykolaiv, a 70-year-old man was killed, while in Zhytomyr, three children lost their lives. In the Khmelnitsky region, four people were confirmed dead and five injured, with at least six homes destroyed and 20 damaged. Kyiv region authorities reported three deaths and 10 injuries, with multiple homes set ablaze and buildings damaged.

Meanwhile, 11 people were injured in the capital, Kyiv, as residential areas came under fire.

In response, Russia reported intercepting a major Ukrainian drone offensive. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its air defense units shot down or neutralized 95 Ukrainian drones across eight regions, including 12 that were heading toward Moscow, according to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The escalating violence highlights the growing intensity of cross-border attacks as the war continues into its third year.
