Runaway Zebra ‘Ed’ Captured in Tennessee After Week-Long Chase and Viral Fame

A pet zebra named Ed, who went missing in Tennessee and captured the internet’s imagination, was safely captured on Sunday after more than a week on the loose. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Ed was located in a pasture near a subdivision in Christiana and airlifted back to safety by helicopter.

Ed had arrived in the area on May 30 and was reported missing the following day. His escape made headlines and social media buzz, with videos showing him running along Interstate 24 and through local neighborhoods. The zebra’s antics sparked viral memes, including fake images of him at Waffle House or panhandling.

Authorities shut down parts of the interstate during the initial pursuit, but Ed slipped into a wooded area, evading capture until aviation crews finally secured him. The incident follows another unusual animal escape last month, when a kangaroo disrupted traffic on an Alabama highway.
