Bangladesh Bank has directed that bank branches near major mango markets in the Rajshahi region remain open on Saturdays through July 31 to support smooth cash transactions during the peak mango season.
According to a circular issued yesterday, the initiative aims to facilitate mango trade and reduce risks associated with cash storage. The directive applies to both permanent and temporary branches in key mango-producing areas including Shibganj, Sadar, Gomostapur, and Bholahat in Chapainawabganj; Sapahar, Porsha, and Niamatpur in Naogaon; and markets in Ambazar, Rajshahi, and Natore.
These branches will operate on a limited scale every Saturday, except during Eid holidays, with banks responsible for ensuring security. The measure, implemented under Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991, is expected to boost mango sales and ease financial transactions for traders during the season.
