Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday issued a sharp warning to Western companies still operating in Russia, stating they should be “throttled” if acting against national interests. The remark came in response to a businessman’s call to restrict U.S. tech giants like Zoom and Microsoft, as Moscow pushes to strengthen its domestic software industry.
Many Western firms have scaled back or exited Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, but some still maintain limited operations. Putin’s statement signals a more aggressive stance toward foreign tech presence in the country amid growing tensions with the West.
