Public Gatherings Banned Around Dhaka Cantonment Until Further Notice: ISPR

Effective Sunday, May 18, all forms of public gatherings—rallies, processions, demonstrations, and protest assemblies—have been banned in areas surrounding the Dhaka Cantonment until further notice.

The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) issued a public notice on Saturday announcing the restrictions, citing the need to “maintain public movement and law and order.”

The prohibition applies to several key areas, including Kochukhet Road, the stretch from Bijoy Sarani to the Chief Adviser’s Office via Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Jahangir Gate, the vicinity of BAF Shaheen College to the Mohakhali Flyover, Sainik Club intersection, Bhashantek, Matikata, ECB Square, and nearby zones.

Authorities stressed that no public assembly of any kind will be permitted in these locations until further instructions are issued.

The ISPR directive follows a similar ban imposed by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday, May 15, which restricted public demonstrations in other strategic parts of the capital.

Officials reiterated that these measures are aimed at preserving public safety and ensuring the smooth flow of daily activities.
