Patiya OC Removed Amid Student and NCP Protests in Chattogram

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Zayed Md Nazmun Noor of Patiya Police Station was removed from his position on Wednesday night following intense protests by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Party (NCP). Chattogram District SP Saiful Islam confirmed that OC Nazmun Noor has been reassigned to the Chattogram Range DIG office.

The protests erupted after student activists detained Dipankar Dey, a member of the banned Chhatra League, and brought him to the police station, demanding his arrest. Police initially refused due to lack of charges, leading to a standoff. Tensions escalated when police used batons to disperse protesters, injuring several, before later arresting Dey.

Demonstrators blocked Indrapul road, severely disrupting traffic, while NCP activists also shut down Zakir Hossain Road in Chattogram city from 3 pm to 7 pm. The protests ultimately led to the removal of the Patiya OC amid calls for accountability.
