Pakistan Army Chief Warns Against Indian Hegemony, Declares Water and Kashmir as ‘Red Lines’

Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has firmly stated that Pakistan will never accept Indian hegemony, declaring water rights and the Kashmir issue as non-negotiable. Speaking at a public event on Thursday (May 29), Munir emphasized that water is a “red line” for Pakistan and warned that no compromise would be allowed on the fundamental rights of its 240 million citizens.

His remarks follow India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty after a deadly attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which killed 26 tourists. India blamed Pakistan for the incident, a charge Islamabad denied, offering an independent investigation. The crisis led to missile exchanges and a temporary ceasefire agreement between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Munir reiterated that Pakistan will not back down on the Kashmir issue, stating it is a global matter that India can no longer suppress. He also rejected Indian allegations linking Pakistan to terrorism, instead blaming India’s internal oppression of minorities—particularly Muslims—for fueling unrest.

Accusing India of backing terrorism in Balochistan, Munir asserted that the Baloch people have no ties to terrorist activities. He called for strengthening Pakistan through rule of law and institutional integrity, free from political and personal interests.
