Over 300,000 Rounds Fired to Suppress July Protests, Tribunal Hears in Hasina Crimes Against Humanity Case

At a hearing on Tuesday, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam informed the International Crimes Tribunal that law enforcement fired 305,311 rounds of bullets nationwide to suppress the July protests, with 95,313 rounds fired in Dhaka alone. The tribunal began proceedings against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun for crimes against humanity committed during the July-August crackdown. Prosecutors accused the trio of ordering systematic killings, while Hasina’s state-appointed lawyer vowed to prove their innocence. Former IGP Mamun remained silent during the hearing.
