In a dramatic anti-corruption raid, Indian security forces recovered over ₹2.1 crore in cash from the residence of Vaikuntha Nath Sarangi, Chief Engineer of the Rural Development Department in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. According to NDTV, as Vigilance Department officials arrived on Friday (May 30), Sarangi attempted to dispose of evidence by throwing bundles of ₹500 notes out of his apartment window—creating a scene described by witnesses as a “rain of rupees.”
The raids were conducted simultaneously at seven locations across Odisha, including Angul, Bhubaneswar, and Pipili (Puri), in response to allegations that Sarangi possessed assets far exceeding his known income.
A 26-member special vigilance team, including senior police officers, carried out the operation. Videos from the raid show stacks of currency notes in various denominations being counted and documented. Investigations into Sarangi’s undeclared wealth and potential misuse of office are ongoing.
