A man named Khaled Mia (47) was killed and at least 20 others were injured in a violent clash between two rival groups over a longstanding land dispute in Kalnichar village of Jagannathpur upazila, Sunamganj. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, May 31.
The conflict broke out between the supporters of Mobarak Hossain Mendi and Ruel Mia, both residents of the same village, escalating into an armed confrontation with local weapons. Khaled Mia, who sustained serious injuries, died around 7:30 PM while receiving treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Several others remain hospitalized.
Jagannathpur Police Station OC Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, stating that police intervened to restore order and that legal proceedings are underway. The area remains under watch, and an autopsy will be conducted as part of the investigation.
