President of the People’s Rights Council, Nurul Haque Nur, has accused members of the interim government of continuing corrupt practices reminiscent of the previous administration under Sheikh Hasina. Speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club on June 3, Nur alleged that “just as Sheikh Hasina looted banks in the name of projects, some advisors are now doing the same,” and claimed that media repression persists unchanged.
He also criticized the harassment of journalists reporting on the Nagad financial scandal and stated, “There is no media freedom; it’s still under control.”
On the upcoming national election, Nur expressed concern over the sudden shift in timing. “The Chief Adviser initially proposed a December election. Now it’s being pushed to June, raising serious doubts,” he said. He further claimed that recent meetings with political parties yielded no real progress.
Nur also accused the National Consensus Panel (NCP) of undermining the army and alleged that efforts are underway to enable “refined” Awami League leaders to re-enter politics, implicating two advisors in this strategy.
Regarding the national budget, he argued that the government lacked the capacity to present a meaningful financial plan in the current fragile economic climate.
Concluding his remarks, Nur called for the complete eradication of what he described as the “defeated power,” comparing it to the historical defeat of the Nazi regime in Germany.
