Nursing Students Protest in Rangpur Demanding Degree Equivalence for Diploma Course

Nursing students staged a protest rally on Thursday at the Dental Unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, demanding that the Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery be recognized as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

Participants included students from Rangpur Government Nursing College as well as nearby private nursing institutions. Faculty members from various nursing colleges also joined the demonstration in support of the students’ demands. Protesters held placards and chanted slogans calling for educational equality.

Students said they have been protesting for 24 consecutive days, yet no concrete action has been taken by the government. They pointed out the ongoing disparity in recognition—despite completing a three-year course after SSC, their qualification is only treated as equivalent to an HSC certificate.

“This is a clear injustice,” one protester said. “We cannot accept such inequality in our education system.”

The students demanded that the government immediately issue a notification recognizing the diploma as degree-equivalent. They also warned that if their demands continue to be ignored, they will escalate their movement in the coming days.
