Nick Kelly’s unbeaten century steered New Zealand A into a strong position against Bangladesh A on the third day of their four-day match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Kelly remained not out on 117 off 196 deliveries, hitting 13 fours and three sixes, as the visitors closed Day 3 on 216 for 5, building a commanding 204-run lead overall.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh A resumed at 249 for 8 but could only add 19 runs before being bowled out for 268, securing a slim 12-run lead after New Zealand A’s first-innings total of 256.
New Zealand A quickly turned the momentum in their favor. After an early loss of opener Rhys Mariu, captain Joe Carter joined Kelly and the pair added a crucial 115-run partnership for the second wicket. Carter contributed 58 before falling to off-spinner Nayeem Hasan.
Bangladesh A’s spinners then struck at regular intervals, with left-arm spinner Hasan Murad leading the attack and finishing with 3 for 51. Despite the breakthroughs, Kelly held firm and continued to anchor the innings. Mitchell Hay remained unbeaten on 11 alongside Kelly at stumps.
As the match heads into its final day, Bangladesh A’s hopes for a positive outcome hinge on the effectiveness of their spin attack.
